Supporting Transgender and Gender-diverse Youths in Singapore

What is Gender Dysphoria?

"Gender dysphoria refers to a psychological distress that results from an incongruence between one’s sex assigned at birth and one’s gender identity."

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR), American Psychiatric Association.

This sense of unease or dissatisfaction could lead to depression and anxiety and have a harmful impact on daily life if left untreated. Gender dysphoria affects people of all ages and it usually intensifies after puberty.
