About Transbefrienders:

Transbefrienders is a charity in Singapore dedicated to supporting transgender and gender-diverse youths. We provide peer support, community outreach, and educational programs to help young adults build confidence and self-sufficiency.

Position Overview:

We are seeking dedicated Academic Tutors to provide educational support to transgender and gender-diverse young adults in core subjects.

This is an unpaid, volunteer position.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Computer Skills, or Business Skills
Assess students' academic strengths and areas for improvement
Develop personalised learning plans tailored to individual student needs
Assist students with homework, projects, and exam preparation
Teach study skills and time management techniques
Monitor and report on student progress
Collaborate with other volunteers and staff to ensure comprehensive support

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business, or any related field
Strong knowledge in at least one of the core subjects: English, Mathematics, Computer Skills, or Business Skills
Previous tutoring or teaching experience (preferred)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Patience and ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms
Cultural sensitivity and commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ youth
Proficiency in using online tutoring platforms and educational software

Time Commitment:

Flexible schedule, ranging from 2 to 15 hours per week, depending on availability and organisational needs.

Benefits:

While this is an unpaid position, volunteers will gain valuable experience in education and mentoring, develop leadership skills, and contribute meaningfully to the transgender and gender-diverse community in Singapore.
