About Transbefrienders:

Transbefrienders is a charity in Singapore dedicated to supporting transgender and gender-diverse youths. We provide peer support, community outreach, and educational programs to help young adults build confidence and self-sufficiency.

Position Overview:

We are looking for Befrienders to guide and provide peer support to youth through a buddy system. Training will be provided.

This is an unpaid volunteer position.

Key Responsibilities:

Reach out to transgender youths via Telegram and/or in person
Provide appropriate guidance and support to client’s requests
Provide emotional support to youth-at-risk
Maintain proper case records

Qualifications:

Transitioned (socially/medically) and above 21 years old
Background in social work or community support would be advantageous, but not compulsory.
Strong understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, particularly those affecting the transgender community in Singapore
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Empathy and ability to create a non-judgmental, inclusive space
Cultural sensitivity and awareness of intersectionality
Basic knowledge of mental health issues common in the transgender community

Time Commitment:

Flexible schedule, ranging from 4 to 8 hours per week, depending on availability and organizational needs.

Benefits:

While this is an unpaid position, volunteers will gain valuable training and experience in peer support, and contribute meaningfully to the well-being of transgender and gender-diverse individuals in Singapore.
